Idaho Teen Reading Challenge 25-26
The ITRC is a statewide challenge presented by the ICfL
Join the Idaho Teen Reading Challenge! It’s a statewide reading challenge for teens in grades 6-12. You can join by picking up a tracking bookmark or journal at your local, participating library.
Get a reading journal or tracking bookmark at Coeur d’Alene Library (in the Teen Zone) or download and print our informational bookmark here:
The bookmark has a simple tracker and links to this website with booklists to help you find books from one of the 10 categories while you’re in the library.
However you choose to track your progress, just be sure to show CDA Library staff how far you’ve gotten occasionally, so you can win a free badge for every book you read (starting in December) and a free prize book for every 4 books you read. Complete the entire challenge (read all 8 books between Oct 1, 2025 and April 30, 2026), and you can be entered into a grand prize drawing, too!
Here’s the 10 categories and their booklists (which are hyperlinked if available):
Free Choice: read whatever you want!
Read a book featuring Mythology.
Read a book that Features Food.
Read a Graphic Novel.

(This can be a book from scary genres, like Mystery (YA), Thrillers (YA), or Horror (YA), or a book that features something you’re afraid of, such as spiders, heights, etc.)Read a book about Something You Love.
(This can be interpreted multiple ways, as well. For instance, you can choose a book from a genre you love, or a book that features an interest or hobby you have.)Read a book with a Nonhuman Main Character.
(This is open to interpretation. Main Characters could be mythical species, animals, aliens, monsters, etc.)Read a book with a Historical Setting.
(The linked booklist is for Historical Fiction, but it could also be a book that features historical facts, too.)Read a book Recommended by a Librarian.
Read a book you find on the Bottom Shelf.
(This one has to be found in-person by browsing the bottom shelf.)
Please keep in mind that the prizes mentioned here (as well as many of the book suggestions) are only available at Coeur d’Alene Public Library.
Read what you want. These booklists are merely suggestions. No specific titles are required. Also, all reading matters. Audiobooks, eBooks, and graphic novels count.
Please let me know if you have any questions (cdateens@cdalibrary.org).
Happy reading! :)
